During the first Covid-19 lockdown, Performing Arts students at SERC began to capture life from their perspective with a series of vlogs. These videos make part of the “Coronavirus Time Capsule” project and are now set to be archived for future generations as part of a project which has been mentioned in the UN report.

The International Time Capsule Society are an organisation who help record, digitise, and preserve time capsules. Through them the students who documented life in lockdown will have their videos preserved in a time capsule for at least 150 years.

One of the students who feature in the time capsule is MacKenzie Moreland a HND Performing Arts student. MacKenzie spoke about the time capsule “I feel honoured that the time capsule is going to be in the international time capsule society. When we first started the time capsules back in the first lockdown never in a million years did I think this would have happened. I’m hoping that when people get to see them in many years to come it’ll be a great insight to what it was like for us to be living through a pandemic.”

Speaking about his time at SERC Makenzie said “Through my course I’ve met some amazing people and we all get on so well which makes coming to class a lot easier. I enjoy the course, and my tutors are fantastic they really help create the best possible learning experience. Once I complete my HND I am hoping to go to university and go straight into my 3rd year to finish of my degree.”

Another student who was involved in the time capsule project, Taylor Dowling, also a HND Performing Arts student spoke about the news, and her own future “I think it's brilliant that our videos are being added to the International Time Capsule Society. It's going to be a great insight into what life was like in full lockdown.

“I'm getting on pretty well in my new course. We just recently put on a production in the College, and the theme was The Rule of 7. It was a huge success despite all the difficulties we had due to Covid 19. After I finish the HND Course, I would love to go on to become a voice actor. I hope to build up my portfolio a bit so I can move on to finding some voice acting jobs.”
