Students in competition for Spa Therapy

Nine Level 3 Spa Therapy students studying at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Downpatrick Campus put their skills to the test recently, in a practical competition judged by past student, Fiona Parker, who owns and runs the Beautifia salon in Newcastle.

The competition was the local heat of a beauty therapy competition also running across SERC campuses in Lisburn and Bangor. The students were judged on their treatment room setting, client care, back massage and electrical facial, allowing them to showcase their expertise and professionalism.

The three winners, Jaye Clydesdale, Paris Graham and Sophie Rooney, will attend the intercampus competition next month. Presenting the trio with certificates and gift vouchers, Fiona Parker said: “The whole class is performing to a very high standard – they are amazing. I would give them all jobs at my salon if I could! Everyone scored highly with just a very few technical aspects putting the three winners ahead."

She added, "As a past student myself, I know the tutors work hard to make sure everyone gets the best out of their course. I employ past SERC students in the salon, too, so I can vouch for the fact that the skills these women are practising now are the skills they will soon be using in employment.”

The Intercampus Beauty Therapy final takes place on 4 March at SERC's Lisburn Campus.
