South Eastern Regional College (SERC) students from across Northern Ireland celebrated Pharmacy Technician Day at the College’s Holywood Campus this week.

The second-year students, all completing the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Practice and Principles for Pharmacy Technicians at SERC, enjoyed input from two guest speakers, which focussed on careers for the sector. Eileen Mulholland, an experienced Pharmacy Technician from Belfast Trust, gave an insight into her career and progression route to a senior role; and Carly Murphy, a recently qualified Pharmacy Technician, spoke about how she was able to apply the knowledge and skills gained in her qualification to her day-to-day role in the South Eastern Trust.

Kerry Gilmore, Pharmacy Tutor/Assessor at SERC said, “Pharmacy Technician Day presents an opportunity to celebrate with our Pharmacy students, the importance of the Practising Pharmacy Technician and the vital role they have within the pharmacy team."

She added, “It’s a chance to raise awareness of this fantastic career path which people may not know about. Our students travel from all across Northern Ireland to complete the required qualification which will help them secure Pharmacy Technician positions in both hospital or community pharmacy settings for a fulfilling career.”

Keep an eye out for student profiles from pharmacy students Clarie Murray and Danielle McNeill in the coming weeks.
