The CMI Level 7 Strategic Leadership & Management course at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) helped Jordan Whitefield (31) from Dungannon get the skills and knowledge she sought to help advance her management potential.

Jordan is a video producer for her own video marketing business called “What Elephant”. She wanted to expand upon and formalise the skills she has learned in the creative industry. She also wanted to learn how to apply models and theory to make workplaces more effective and enjoyable for people.

Jordan spoke about her job and the day-to-day activities within it: “I work with clients to distil their business or project story into meaningful video content. This entails finding out about their goals and their journey and exploring how we can achieve success for them with a video, a website or their social media content. I research the market and their competitors, analyse their online performance and make informed recommendations on how to move their digital communication forward. I then start writing scripts, arrange a film crew, and make the video shoot happen! I also help clients build their website and marketing strategy to support the video content and make sure it achieves their goals for them.

“The best bit about my job is meeting people who are making a difference in the world. Ultimately my work is about supporting people to achieve a meaningful transformation, which the L7 Strategic Leadership and Management course is all about!”

Speaking about the course and her experience at the college Jordan said “I enrolled near the start of the pandemic to have something positive to focus on. Being immersed in a learning environment, albeit solely online, was nourishing for the mind and the soul. The small group of like-minded, ambitious and warm course mates was a joy to be around every week.

“I most enjoyed the support of my course mates and the immense array of knowledge and experiences shared with us through guest speakers, and our tutor Jenny. The mentoring we were given throughout was invaluable and I can genuinely say that my current success in business has been hugely influenced by Jenny’s support and guidance.”

She added “Jenny really boosted my confidence and highlighted the value I bring to organisations. I realised the time had come to fly out on my own and give my own business a proper go. The course has taught me some fantastic models for analysis which will benefit my clients, my business, and my teammates. Being a member of the Chartered Management Institute provided some amazing insights into how management can transform a person’s experience and that leadership skills need to constantly be honed and adapted. It really is a lifelong journey and I’m excited to be in the process of becoming a Chartered Manager with the support of Jenny and the SERC team.”

Jordan concluded “I would 100% recommend SERC to anyone. The support, expertise, network and opportunities that I’ve been offered through SERC have been more than I ever expected.”
