Students on SERC’s College Connect course were recently visited by Lieutenant Michael McMahon from the Royal Navy. Lt McMahon presented two interactive leadership sessions to the students over Microsoft Teams.
Students participated in a variety of tasks including challenges for their numerical and survival skills. The students were able to ask questions about different career pathways within the Navy.
Head of School Training Barbara McNeill said “I was delighted that, after a couple of years of planning and further interruption due to COVID restrictions, the sessions finally took place and l look forward to further sessions in the future. Lt McMahon shared his naval experience with students and his enthusiasm and style of delivery had certainly got students thinking about a career in the Navy.”
The visit was well received by the students, who found the presentation and the information it provided helpful and insightful, with one student commenting “I thought the presentation was brilliant, it gives young adults a heads up on what adventures and amazing opportunities are out there.”
The students now hope to participate in some practical leadership activities when lockdown restrictions ease.
As soon as COVID restrictions allow, Lt McMahon hopes to deliver sessions on campus. Further sessions are already planned with engineering and marine engineering students.
