SERC's Bangor Campus is preparing to launch Coder Dojo classes which will give budding computer experts the chance to create the next gaming hit.
Established in 2013, Coder Dojo is a global, open-source, volunteer-led movement that organises free, not-for-profit coding clubs (Dojos) for young people. Coder Dojo aims to teach young people game and app design skills while also firing up their imagination to create what could be the hit mobile games of the future or simply a fun way to creatively express themselves.
SERC are offering Coder Dojo classes on a fortnightly basis, starting on Thursday 8 November from 1630-1800 at SERC’s SPACE Bangor Campus on the Castle Park Road. Coder Dojo is completely free.
SERC Head of School for the School of Engineering and Computing Trevor Breadon said “It’s a bit like an after-school activity crossed with a social club. We are committed to ensuring that every young person – no matter where they live or what their background, has the digital skills to succeed. With the launch of our Coder Dojo classes, young people will get first-hand experience of learning how to code, build a website, create an app or a game, and explore technology in an informal, creative, and social environment.”
