SERC has partnered with Inspire Wellbeing to host Inspiration Points across their campuses. The new initiative will see readily available mental health information for students and staff to encourage an end to the stigma and prejudice that surrounds mental health and promotion of wellbeing for all.

Maureen McKay, SERC HR Business Partner said, “We are committed to workforce and student wellbeing, involving ourselves in many campaigns such as Mind Yourself, Change Your Mind, Time to Talk Day. We believe it is vitally important that we continue to both reach out and signpost people who may need help and we are delighted to partner with Inspire Wellbeing in the Inspiration Points campaign.

“Our staff recently attended information sessions to learn more about services available to support both themselves and their students. Topics included many aspects which may impact on mental health such as sleep and wellbeing, making connections and alcohol awareness. Having this knowledge equips us better to enhance the student experience and adds to the pastoral care we already provide at SERC.

She added, “Our students and staff have 24-hour access to the Inspire Wellbeing helpline and can avail of face-to-face counselling in our main campuses in Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newtownards. We also have nine dedicated Mental Health First Aiders available in campuses for staff and students and we recently opened our first quiet room in the Lisburn Campus for relaxation, prayer and reflection.

She concluded, “We look forward to developing our partnership with Inspire Wellbeing to raise awareness, break down barriers and open up the conversation about mental health.”

SERC was a finalist in the Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards for Workplace Wellbeing 2018.
