South Eastern Regional College’s Students’ Union will be hosting their annual Refreshers Week from 1 – 5 February to help students stay connected and focus on their future.
Catherine Shipman, Student Engagement Manager said, “Refocus, Refresh, and Reconnect are the themes for our Refreshers Week which kicks off on Monday 1 February with an online fair open for every student. The fair will highlight the range of internal support available across the College from Pastoral Care to the Learning Resource Centres to Careers and Student Finance. Students will be able to access specially recorded short films that will remind them of staff and teams they can go to for support. We also have input from local mental health charities which will provide tips and ideas for keeping well and who to connect with if you need help.
“On Monday 1st Feb, Wednesday 3rd Feb and Friday 5th Feb, students will be invited to Get Fit with SERC Sport in specially designed taster sessions that will get everyone moving. The idea is that you can pick one or two or try them all and see what you enjoy most.
“Thursday 4th Feb is Time to Talk Day and we are excited to be hosting our very first Parent Learner Support Group. This is a student led initiative which recognises the challenges faced by students who are also parents who are juggling College work with home schooling. It is a safe space for parent learners to share experiences and to get and give advice to others.
Catherine concluded, “Throughout the week students will also be able to book into support sessions on various aspects of college life. These include Five Ways to Wellbeing, Careers ‘Myth Busting’, HE Student Finance Advice with QUB, Budgeting skills with Bank of Ireland and Making the Most of your Budget with the Consumer Council and the week will conclude with a Drop-In Session hosted by the SU Online Hub, open to any student to ask questions on the SU, Careers and Student Finance.
