A South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Northern Ireland Film & Television School (NIFTS) student production has won Best Scripted category at the Royal Television Society (RTS) NI Student Awards 2021.

The production, ‘She Cries at Night’, is a sinister short, worked on by SERC students Stephen Parker (writer/director), Jane McLaughlin, Marc McCabe, John Lennox, Robbie Coey, Antonia Cowan, Josh Bell, Jane McLaughlin, Samantha Davies, Lee Seales and Colin Bloomer.  Congratulations to all involved for their hard work and dedication.

Alison Thompson, Course Director at NIFTS comments, "We couldn't be prouder of this incredibly talented group of students.  Stephen Parker wrote and directed the winning entry in 2020 which was an amazing achievement... for Stephen to write and direct the winning RTS NI Student Best Scripted Drama for the second year running in 2021 is just phenomenal.”

She continues, “Between them, these NIFTS Alumni are fast developing a strong body of industry experience... from Mastermind and Who Wants to be a Millionaire Runner with Stellify Media to BBCNI Researcher, Camera Assistant on the BBC’s One Show to Assistant Producer in factual at Clean Slate TV... they’re amazing so definitely stay tuned to your telly and look out for their names coming to a programme crédit near you sometime soon!”

Peter Graham, Film Production Lecturer at NIFTS, concludes, “From the moment they arrived, this class bonded and wanted to get out and film... they bounced ideas off each other, wrote scripts, booked kit out and filmed. The learning curve was steep, but the results have been staggering. With recent investment in new industry kit, we were determined to help them take their latest production to the next level and they did just that.”

The film is currently doing a festival circuit and will be available for wider viewership afterwards.
