The workshops provide a taster of various sports-related activities using SERC campus facilities and expertise, aiming to enhance young people's experience of sport.

The young players from Saul GAC all attended three different sessions during the evening: a nutrition demonstration by the SERC catering team, offering advice on how to eat healthily and keep your body in shape through what you eat; a strength and conditioning session hosted by the SERC Sport team, explaining exercise techniques to enhance fitness; and a session on mental wellbeing, hosted by a member of Action Mental Health, emphasising the importance of mental health as well as physical health.

Victoria Jordan, SERC School of Applied Science and Sport, says

“Our SERC Sport Performance Workshops present a great opportunity to support our local sporting communities. These workshops will help provide extra knowledge and an all-round picture of health and fitness for these young athletes.  They are designed to build on the benefits of their regular training sessions and, we hope, take them to another level of performance.”

The SERC Sport team will run the workshop once a month for the under-16 players from different clubs from the local Downpatrick area.
