Fire and security experts, alongside SERC apprentices and students, attended the Northern Ireland Fire Industry Forum training day hosted by SERC at the College’s SPACE Campus in Bangor recently.

Samuel Lyttle, Curriculum Manager, School of Construction, Engineering Services and Skills for Work at SERC said, “We were delighted to welcome more than 60 students, employers and specialists to the Northern Ireland Fire Industry Forum training day in partnership with AICO, an acknowledged market leader in residential fire safety products such as smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.   “

Fire and security engineering apprentices and construction students participated in several training sessions in the morning, which included an Alarm Challenge. It provided the opportunity to upskill to industry standards and to consolidate learning from the classroom.”

He added, “The afternoon session was specifically for people working in the industry and included a visit to the AICO mobile unit and a valuable Continuing Professional Development session on the core module on Domestic Fire & CO Overview. Additional sessions included Education, Training & Industry Support; Creating Safer Homes with IoT (the Internet of Things); and Smart Technology Hub. It was great to network with people in the industry, share best practice, and gain the latest insight for the industry.”

Duncan Orr, AICO, said, “Events such as the Northern Ireland Fire Industry Forum allow us to meet with employers and students and gives us the opportunity to educate the next generation.”
