As part of the “Bring IT On Campaign” SERC hosted an online event called “Encouraging Girls into IT”. The event outlined the courses and career prospects available in the IT industry and the overall aim of the event was to inspire a new generation of female IT professionals.
‘Bring IT On’ is a programme funded by the Department for the Economy, it is designed to encourage and educate young people about the career pathways in IT. The “Encouraging Girls into IT” event provided the young minds of today the help and support needed to climb the ladder to success.
Computing lecturer Claire Clarke, one of the event organisers, said "‘Encouraging Girls into IT’ provided attendees with the opportunity to hear from females who are currently working within the IT sector, and it was very interesting to hear from those individuals”
Claire added “There was a range of topics covered, such as cyber security, games design and development and we even heard from some of our very own SERC Alumni. The importance of this event is to encourage girls to think about their career prospects and show how IT can be part of their career goals. We hope this can be an annual event to showcase the different courses at SERC.”
The feedback from the event has been positive, one review said “Thank you so much for this brilliant event. It was extremely informative with excellent speakers who each gave a detailed insight to all the Careers in IT. I learnt a lot today and I'm sure the students did as well. Looking forward to any future events.” With another adding “Loved hearing about the virtual cyber security avenues and job opportunities using different educational routes avenues"
