SERC’s Student company, “Don’t Bird it, Bin it” has been invited to participate in this year’s Eco-Schools Teachers Conference on March 21 at W5 in Belfast.
‘Plastic and the Marine Environment’ is the theme for this year's conference which will celebrate 25 years of the Eco-Schools programme.
The SERC student’s “Don’t Bird it, Bin it” project is driven by a global and local plastic waste problem and the belief that education is at the core of solving the problem.
This project offers an educational package tailored for local primary schools, including visual aids and resources such as a seagull who has consumed plastic to demonstrate how detrimental plastic is to wildlife and eco-system.
SERC Deputy Head of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs and Eco Committee Member Lizzie Buick said, “We are delighted to have been personally invited to be one of the exhibitions at the Eco-Schools Teacher Conference. It’s a great honour for the College which stemmed from our Green Flag Assessor visit to our Bangor Campus during our Valentine’s Fair when a range of student companies, including our Eco-friendly Zero Shop, were hosting enterprise stands selling and promoting all sorts of gifts and goodies, many of which are eco-friendly.”
“Here at SERC we have fantastic students and staff who are passionate about the preservation of our environment. We are excited to have the opportunity to share our ideas and experience with like-minded individuals who all share this common goal.”
SERC’s Zero Shops, hosted by staff and students will be exhibiting at the Eco-Schools Teacher Conference. The Zero Shop provide the opportunity to re-purpose and donate a variety of items for resale with funds being put back into the colleges environmentally motivated social enterprises."
