The Digital Construction Live Awards celebrate and recognise excellence across the construction industry. This year, a product SERC created in collaboration with ConstructTuition, a construction industry consultancy, has been shortlisted in the ‘Most Innovative New Product’ category at the Digital Construction Live Awards, for the 'Rebar Pro Learning Toolkit'. The category recognises companies that have gone the extra mile on the digital journey through the creation or advancement of a product.
Ryan Graham, SERC Engineering Training Consultant, comments, "Lorna from ConstructTuition approached the Engineering team at SERC with the idea of a new product for the construction industry; the product would help her explain, on a scaled down desktop basis in her construction training consultancy, how structural steel rebar is implemented. Instead of metres of steel bar, we worked with Lorna to design and manufacture a 3D printed, plastic, scaled-down version of each individual reinforcement, which is not only easily transported, but also easily demonstrates to her clients how to do the job safely and effectively.”
Simon Keys, SERC Engineering Training Consultant, adds, "Working with ConstructTuition, and helping them receive their nomination for Most Innovative Product at the Digital Construction Live Awards 2023, is a brilliant example of what we are able to achieve when partnering academics with industries who are in need of upskilling and mentoring. I am humbled to have been involved in this project and I can't wait to see what happens next for ConstructTuition."
Lorna Hagan, Company Director of ConstructTuition, comments, “As a small business owner, it was great to get the support from the team of industry experts at SERC. It’s also great to get through to finalist stage for Most Innovative Product for the ‘Rebar Pro Learning Toolkit’. The Awards showcase the latest and best in Digital Construction in Ireland and the UK. It’s a great start for the development of what will hopefully be a global product, ensuring a high level of competence and building safety in the construction industry.”
The project was funded through the Department for the Economy's InnovateUs programme.
The Awards Ceremony takes place on Thursday 15 June at Crowne Plaza, Belfast. SERC wishes the best of luck to ConstructTuition in the finals.
