Last week, South Eastern Regional College’s (SERC’s) Student’s Union, Pride Alliance Society and the Rainbow Project hosted an LGBTQ+ event at the college’s Bangor campus, to mark LGBTQ+ history month.

The event was focused on showcasing the ‘Icons of the Trans, Non-Binary and Intersex Community’, noting historical figures who have contributed to shaping the perspective of the LGBTQ+ community within society. Students learnt about the impact of individuals such as Marsha P Johnston, Pidgeon Pagonis and Coccinelle, and were given the opportunity to share their thoughts and ask questions.

Ross Currie, SERC Student Engagement Officer comments:

“We are delighted to have marked LGBTQ+ history month at SERC, and I’d like to express my thanks to the Pride Alliance Society and Leo from the Rainbow Project for making the event a success. We would like students to know there is support available at SERC, and a Pride Alliance Society, that runs at the Bangor campus providing a safe space to meet up, chat, and play games. If you would like to come along, the Society meets up every Thursday in Bangor from 3:00 – 5:00pm in room D23.”
