With young people across the province waiting anxiously for A level and GCSE results, South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is hosting remote appointments offering young people free, impartial and tailored careers advice on the run up to result days.
Shirley Moore, Senior Careers Officer at SERC said, “The SERC’s Careers Service is open for business to help with those vital next steps school leavers and parents will want to consider during this extra-ordinary time. Our team offers professional, impartial careers advice and guidance and is available to prospective SERC students and parents, as well as everyone living in the local community.”
Make an appointment to see a Careers Advisor at SERC
For those students who are looking at their post-16 or post-18 options, and thinking of coming to SERC, we are offering virtual pre-enrolment 30-minute appointment slots from 10.00am-3.30pm each day up to Wednesday 12 August.
Careers Advice following A Level and GCSE Result Days
The careers team will be available remotely following A level result days from 9.00am to 5.00pm on Thursday 13 August and 9.00am to 3.00pm on 14 August and on GCSE result days from 9am to 5pm on Thursday 20 and 9am to 3pm on 21 August.
Shirley added, “Clients can book an appointment by emailing careers@serc.ac.uk, letting us know your nearest campus or by contacting one of the team directly, you will find details at: www.serc.ac.uk/support/careers-service. We can conduct the appointment in a variety of formats via telephone, by providing email guidance or through Microsoft Teams if the preference is for a video call.”
We look forward to welcoming students to the College in September but in line with Government advice, the enrolment process will be a little different this year.
Higher Education Courses
Any post A Level student wishing to enrol on a higher education course at SERC, including Degree, Foundation Degree, HND, HNC or Higher-Level Apprenticeship, must apply online at serc.ac.uk. All applicants will receive an enrolment appointment which they need to accept in advance and then attend their chosen campus on the date and time allocated. A parent or guardian may attend but we ask that this is limited to one person. Students need to bring evidence of their results and GCSE certificates to their appointment when they will meet course lecturing staff and, provided they meet the entry requirements, they will then be enrolled on their course.
Further Education, Training for Success and Apprenticeship Courses
Any post-GCSE student wishing to progress to a further education, training, or apprenticeship programme, must apply online at serc.ac.uk. All applicants will receive an enrolment appointment which they need to accept in advance and then attend their chosen campus on the date and time allocated. This will be during the period Monday 17 to Wednesday 19 August. A parent or guardian may attend with students, but we ask that this is limited to one person. On results day, Thursday 20 August, students need to log on to their online SERC account and upload their results before 12 noon to confirm their place.
Shirley concluded, “Deciding on the next step after leaving school can be a daunting and anxious time for young people and their parents who may not know about all the courses or learning opportunities available. Whether or not you get the grades you are expecting, it’s important to make informed choices. Our team of careers advisors can talk young people through their individual situations to see for themselves what options are available to them not only at SERC but further afield.”
