What better way to start the New Year, than by focusing on Mindfulness for the month of January, and the best day of the week to do this is on a Monday.

Returning after the Christmas break, you will have felt different this year, the ongoing uncertainty and changes have made it harder for everyone. It is our mindset that will determine how we manage to get through these challenges.

Sometimes we don’t take time to assess what we do in our routine before we get to work. Take time this week, reflect, don’t rush and think about what you are actually doing and see and how you feel. Paying attention to the sensations of everyday experiences can calm your mind every Monday and throughout the rest of the week.

Frank Liddy, Inspire Wellbeing Lead Mindfulness Practitioner outlines why it is important in January to “Reflect, Recharge and Refocus” on ourselves Reflect, Recharge, Refocus (sharepoint.com)

Mindfulness Exercise

This mindfulness exercise is designed to develop your ability to stay in the present moment and it is a great way to improve your ability to concentrate. Ideally, mindfulness is something that you will learn to integrate into all moments of your daily life.

One Mindful Minute

This simple mindfulness exercise is one that you can do anytime throughout the day.

Take a moment ………………. Check your watch and note the time. For the next 60 seconds try to focus all your attention on your breathing. Just your breathing. Just for one minute. Keep your eyes open and breathe normally. Your mind will start to wander but be ready to catch it and refocus on your breathing. This mindfulness exercise is far more powerful – and challenging - than most people think. Re-member, you can’t fail at this exercise, you can only experience it.

Use this exercise as many times as you need throughout the day to restore your mind to the present moment, clarity and peace.
