The College is committed to providing a healthy, safe and supportive working environment that promotes positive mental health for staff and students.

As an ongoing commitment a Mental Health policy for staff has been devised and implemented and this has been placed on the Learning Engine to access click here

The aim of the policy is to promote the mental wellbeing of all staff and ensure they are treated fairly and equally by:

  • Providing information, support services and raising awareness about mental wellbeing
  • Providing opportunities for employees to look after their mental wellbeing and encourage employees to look after their own mental health and build resilience
  • Providing training to managers to ensure they are equipped to support employees
  • Promoting policies and practices that promote wellbeing

A Mental Health Action Plan process has been developed in conjunction with the Mental Health Policy for Line Managers and it is a personalised confidential practical tool that staff can use to help identify what keeps them well and what adjustments need to be made when returning from sickness absence and, if staff are experiencing mental health issues while at work.

Staff are encouraged to complete the form prior to meeting their Line Manager, it is not a legally binding document and will only be sent to HR to be held on file or for Occupational Health purposes with the consent of individuals. More information is available in the Guidance Notes which have been devised and these can be accessed on the HR Teamsite along with the Mental Health policy and the Mental Health Action Plans click here.
