Here at SERC we are keen to promote internal colleagues to allow staff the opportunity to get to know each other and put a face to the name, particularly due to the size and scope of SERC. With this in mind, “Meet your Colleagues” is a fun Q and A exercise to help raise awareness of people’s roles within SERC and allows you to get to know more about your fellow colleagues.

This week’s “Meet your Colleagues” features Kane Beacom. Kane is a KTP Associate at SERC.

What does your role at SERC involve?

I am a KTP associate working with SERC, Innovate UK, and Greenview Group, based 90% of the time on Greenview’s premises at Carryduff.

Tell us a bit about your background?

Originally from Lisbellaw (Fermanagh) I studied Business Information Systems at UU Magee. I spent 15 months on placement as a material scheduler for Hyster Yale in Craigavon. After graduating I got a graduate job in Citi (Belfast) working in the ForEx department as an investigative analyst. After almost 2 years there I applied for the KTP role I am in now and have not looked back.

What 3 words best describe you?

Driven, easy going.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy travelling a lot and experiencing new things. I have a very keen interest in football however I am useless myself at playing it. When possible, I like to socialise a lot with friends. Hopefully once things open again, we can get back to festivals and events.

If you could swap jobs for a day who would it be and why?

I would swap the job of a F1 driver (Any one of them) – simply because of their lifestyle and the buzz of racing. The feeling of winning would be amazing. It would also fit into my hobby of travelling.

List 3 items you would want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?

  1. Phone (hoping there is signal and to call for help)
  2. Blanket to keep warm at warm.
  3. A freezer full of ice-cold Harp and water. (I may as well enjoy myself if no one is going to come for me)

What is your favourite film and why?

The Godfather. (1st one but they are all good). It is just a quality film; I don’t think they make them like they used to. The characters are so classy and in my opinion anything Italian is cool.

Where do you most want to travel, but have never been?

New York, or anywhere across the Atlantic. I have never been to America, but it is definitely on the list in the very near future,
