Here at SERC we are keen to promote internal colleagues to allow staff the opportunity to get to know each other and put a face to the name, particularly due to the size and scope of SERC.

Here at SERC we are keen to promote internal colleagues to allow staff the opportunity to get to know each other and put a face to the name, particularly due to the size and scope of SERC. With this in mind, “Meet your Colleagues” is a fun Q and A exercise to help raise awareness of people’s roles within SERC and allows you to get to know more about your fellow colleagues.

This week’s “Meet your Colleagues” features Anna Leahy. Anna is an intern within the Student Engagement department here at SERC.

1. What does your role at SERC involve?

The purpose of my role in Student Engagement is to enrich and support the student experience at SERC. The Student Engagement Team ensures that students’ voices are heard, they have representation, inclusion and opportunities to develop.

2. Tell us a bit about your background?

In 2018, I graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with a degree in Psychology. While in university, I was involved in volunteering at homework clubs for primary school children in Belfast and had a placement at the SPSS Link Centre in Belfast. After university, I worked at Southern Regional College in Newry as a Student Activities Intern for 14 months, before coming to SERC to join the Student Engagement Team.

3. What 3 words best describe you?

  • Easy Going
  • Realistic
  • Enthusiastic

4. What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I like to go to the gym, spend time with friends and family and this year I am going to try to read more books.

5. If you could swap jobs for a day who would it be and why?

I would love to see what it is like to be in a very creative job, such as being a Product Developer for a make up brand. It sounds so fun!

6. List 3 items you would want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?

  • My water bottle (I’m never seen without it)
  • Hand sanitizer (germaphobe!)
  • And my iPhone, of course

7. What is your favourite film and why?

The Lion King. It’s a classic and I grew up watching it.

8. Where do you most want to travel, but have never been?

Somewhere like the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic.
