During September, SERC’s Newtownards Campus played host to the MechanExpert roadshow organised in conjunction with CD Group which saw students, staff and local businesses get the opportunity to meet technical experts, learn about the latest automotive technology and get the inside track on best practices from the leading brands and manufacturers.
MechanExpert provides high quality online technical guides, videos and information as well as practical training for the independent automotive aftermarket.
The MechanExpert Roadshow brings technical experts from the top leading brands in the automotive industry including LUK, FAG, INA, Kilen, KYB, Comma, Gates, Bosch, Apec, Mann + Hummel and Hella to share their insights with demonstrations and to answer questions one-on-one.
Students and staff got the opportunity to tour each of the brands and speak with the experts. Each of the experts gave a short description of their area, changes in their sector, product demonstrations and best practice when working with their products which will ultimately benefit the students in their studies.
Later in the evening, local automotive businesses got the opportunity to attend the roadshow where they too were treated to demonstrations, presentations and discussion time with the experts.
Thanks to the roadshow the College and the students will benefit from technical information shared directly from manufacturers as well as having access to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training on several areas held in conjunction with local businesses.
SERC Head of School for the School of Construction, Engineering Services and Skills for Work John Nixon said that “It has been a privilege to host this event. All the exhibitors were truly professional and eager to educate the next generation. Our students will have undoubtedly benefited from the invaluable information provided which will ultimately benefit them in their studies and future working lives.”
