CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership in Practice student, Louise Johnston, (42), from Ballymena, enhanced her skills at SERC to improve her businesses.

Louise was interested in taking on a Level 7 course under the ‘Women in Leadership’ umbrella. She found out about the CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership in Practice course at SERC through social media and applied. Louise had previously completed a CIPD course with DMS (Development Means Success) Ireland and was keen to develop her skills in leadership and management even further at SERC.

On her course, Louise comments, “Embarking on the course online was a transformative experience for me. As a Company Director juggling the demands of my businesses with the joys and responsibilities of motherhood, I found the flexibility of online learning invaluable. It allowed me to integrate my studies seamlessly into my busy lifestyle, ensuring I could advance my education without compromising on my professional or family commitments. The quality of tuition and support provided was outstanding, fostering a nurturing and engaging learning environment. Furthermore, connecting with like-minded women in leadership and business was incredibly empowering. This course not only equipped me with strategic leadership skills but also expanded my network and support system.

“I enhanced my strategic leadership skills, tackled organizational challenges and set strategic goals. I also completed a strategic management project, which involves developing a business case, conducting research, and applying project management techniques for successful project execution and reflection on its outcomes.

“The course significantly reshaped my leadership style in both my hospitality business as well as in my property development and investment activities. It armed me with the skills to navigate complex issues and set sharp, strategic directions in line with our long-term goals. The focus on developing robust business cases and mastering project management techniques has been key to pushing both enterprises forward, instilling a mindset of innovation and operational excellence. This newfound perspective is pivotal in navigating the intricacies of the business landscape, ensuring both ventures thrive in a competitive environment.

“The course director was a standout for me; not only was she incredibly knowledgeable and approachable, but also friendly and exceptionally supportive, making my learning journey more personal and engaging. Online support was a constant presence, making it feel like I had a guiding hand whenever I needed it. The feedback I received was always helpful and encouraging, which greatly enhanced my learning experience. On top of all this, I made some new friends, adding a valuable layer to my entire experience.”

Louise concluded, “I am immensely grateful for the experience I had on my course. If you are thinking of doing this course or any like it at SERC, definitely take the leap! Balancing life as a busy mum and businesswoman, I found this course not only manageable but also incredibly enriching. It's more than career advancement; it's about equipping yourself with the knowledge and skills for more effective leadership. If you're pondering over it, don't hesitate. It's absolutely worth it!”
