For anyone considering a career in accountancy, adult learner Ewa Robakowska from SERC is a great example of the rewards that can be gained from studying a Higher-Level Apprenticeship.
Ewa from Lisburn completed her Accounting Higher Level Apprenticeship earlier this year and has already secured full-time employment as a Finance Assistant with GTM Relocations in Dunmurry.
Originally from Poland, Ewa first came to SERC to study a Level 3 in computerised accounts back in 2015 after attending an open day. While studying her Level 3 qualification, Ewa had a full-time job and had to juggle these while raising her family.
Ewa said: “I lacked a lot of confidence in myself and my abilities. For the first two months of the course I didn’t believe I could do it. If it wasn’t for the help and support of my tutors, my employer and my husband, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
As a result of her hard work and passion for the subject, Ewa came twelfth place in the Level 5 Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI) exams, which hundreds of individuals completed.
Now in full time employment, Ewa is making positive changes within her role such as advising and implementing new budging and reporting measures as well as team working and networking with others in the sector.
Following her time at SERC, Ewa said “I couldn’t recommend studying at SERC enough. SERC provided me with fantastic support, the facilities are brilliant, and the atmosphere is so welcoming. They helped me move forward in my career, I’m more confident and thanks to them I have more opportunities for promotion and I will be able to give my family a better life.”
SERC HLA Co-ordinator Sandra Roleston said: "It is wonderful to see former students succeeding following their time with SERC. For Ewa and many like her the hard work has truly paid off. I wish Ewa the very best of luck for the future.”
