Land Based Engineering Apprentices Get ready for Year Two

The pressures on our farming industry and food security are hot topics now.   Indeed, our farming industry is dependent on the skills and experience of many people to keep food in our shops and on our tables, and that includes the next cohort of Land Based Engineering Apprentices at South Eastern Regional College.  

SERC Lecturer, Simon Toman said, “Land-based engineers work to solve problems using a combination of scientific, technical, and engineering knowledge.   Essentially, they deal with the maintenance and repair of a range of mechanised equipment used in agriculture and other land-based industries."

“Our apprentices are trained in a range of skills including thermal joining and cutting processes, the service and repair of cooling and lubrication systems and the material preparation, shaping and assembly – it is all about problem-solving to ensure equipment is safe and fit to do the work required. The apprentices much successfully undertake 17 different units over the two years to complete the apprenticeship."
