Keeping Friends and Family Safe for Big Day

We live in extraordinary times with everyone making sacrifices for the betterment of our loved ones, family and friends. This was no more apparent than when William Baker, our Technician in Manufacturing/Fabrication, School of Engineering and Computing and his fiancée had to cancel their wedding due to the lockdown and health risks so prevalent now in the world.
William comments, “Elderly family members, family living overseas, friends and family living in England and beyond, basically 40% of our guests couldn’t have made it to our planned wedding on Easter Monday .This was a huge kick in the guts us when we realised the inevitable. We couldn’t risk our family members contracting this virus so had to postpone our big day just before we went into lockdown. The risk just wasn’t worth it. Lisa’s grandparents suffer from various illness ranging from asthma and COPD to a stroke survivor. My father suffers diabetes and various heart conditions. The risk was too high, and we didn’t want to put anyone in any danger.”
William concluded with a message to others in a similar situation, “Don’t stress - easy for me to say, I know - but at the end of the day you’re still getting married. The dress and suits will still be there at the end of this quarantine period, and if WE ALL STAY AT HOME, everyone you want to be with you on that special day will still be there on the new date.”
William perfectly highlights the struggles we are all feeling, but also the positivity of remaining compliant with regulations set out by the Government. By making this difficult decision, he exemplifies selfless people ready to endure the stress and disappointment of cancelling a most special event for the good of those he cares about.
