Congratulations to Janice Chaib, from Lambeg, Lisburn who has been awarded with a City and Guilds Level 6 Professional Recognition Award (PRA) through Business Services at South Eastern Regional College (SERC).
Janice, PA to the Director of Curriculum Management and Information Services, Dr Michael Malone, at SERC, has had a long and enjoyable career within the corporate services sector where she has developed and enhanced her skills set in a range of roles - receptionist at a taxi company, despatch clerk, quality assurance administrator and PA - which she describes as challenging and rewarding.
Speaking about her decision to do the Level 6 Professional Recognition Award, she said, “Emma Finney, Innovation Manager at SERC suggested the qualification to me and after some research and support from my line manager, I started the course in October 2019. I had planned to submit my portfolio in March, but the impact of COVID-19 delayed my submission.
She added, “I have recommended the course to several people as it is an excellent way of recording all the skills and experience you have gained over the years - things you do every day without a second thought, but important and valuable skills for any workplace. The modern workplace is dynamic, and no one can afford to stand still. I see achieving the Level 6 PRA as part of my personal and professional progression to improve in my career. I have found it thoroughly enjoyable and very rewarding and feel a great sense of achievement at its completion.
Janice concluded, “Stephen McGreevy, my mentor for the course, was very helpful and supportive, always ready to answer queries, happy to meet up and fantastic at helping me to get a point across - nothing was ever too much trouble. He is an excellent example of the kind of tutor required for a course at this level.”
Stephen McGreevy, Deputy Business Manager at SERC and Janice’s mentor said, “When Janice came to speak to me about the course, it was clear she was a perfect candidate for the qualification, and certainly met the criteria. She has the passion and motivation for continuous improvement and self-development. It is fantastic to see students, such as Janice, achieve the Level 6 Professional Recognition Award, which recognises the wealth of experience and skills acquired in the workplace.”
