A team of imaginative students from SERC Newtownards Campus have come up with a novel idea which will get Halloween festivities off to a ‘spooktacular’ start as well as raising funds for a local charity.

Claire-Louise Kanhye-Crawford, Sen Associate Lecturer at SERC said, “Students throughout the College are encouraged to come up with an enterprise activity and our Year 1 and 3 Life Skills students developed the idea of having a spooky selfie space where students could pay 50p  to  take their own fun selfie which they could share online to be in with a chance of winning  a voucher prize.   All profits from the activity will go to Bandanas for the Brave, a local charity providing practical support to children and young people who have been given a cancer diagnosis.

“We are thrilled with the ideas that the students have generated to make the selfie space a ‘must do’ activity at the College on Monday 21 October from 10.30am to 11am then 12 noon to 1.30pm. So far it involves bales of hay, papier Mache pumpkins, large spiders and crows and Halloween themed mannequins, all designed and made by the students.   It is all starting to take shape and we are thrilled with the effort and excitement from the students.

She added, “We have also invited P4 pupils from St Finian’s and Londonderry Primary Schools to call up to SERC on Friday 18th October to take part in some Halloween crafts and join us for story-telling whist they preview our Spooky Selfie Space.”
