Darcey Quinn (18) has successfully completed her Level 3 National Extended Diploma in IT at SERC’s campus and is taking the next step in her ambition to become a web developer as she prepares to head to university.
Darcey, from Lisburn, came to SERC following her GCSEs at St. Patrick’s Academy. She said, “I came along to an open day at the College in 2020. I was keen to talk over my options with the careers staff and wanted to find out about the routes I could take with my GCSEs. The Level 3 National Extended Diploma in ITmatched my aspirations.”
Speaking about moving on from school to college she said, “There is a bit more freedom at college than at high school, but you still have to put the work in. The attentiveness of the teachers and the style of learning feel a lot more supportive than in regular secondary school. The lecturers really try to make the learning as straightforward and fun as possible. I would encourage anyone considering coming to SERC to check out the IT courses and of course talk to the lecturers. The courses are fascinating and packed full of good units like Games Development and Programming.”
She added, “I particularly enjoyed the positive attitude of the whole College community and the great camaraderie amongst my classmates. I am so thankful to all my lecturers for making the last two years at SERC so wonderful; they are all very special, unforgettable people.”
“Going to college was a fresh alternative to doing the traditional route of A Levels to get to university. I have the grades to continue my educational journey to higher education at university and will be starting a BSc Hons in Computing Systems at Ulster University this September and I am on track to realise my ambitions to become a web developer.”
