SERC Higher Education students will be based in tourism hotspot Malaga

Eight (8) higher education travel and tourism and business students from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) are flying off to Malaga for a four-week placement, funded by the Department for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS).

The students are Emily Rundall (Donaghadee) and Shea Robinson (Bangor), both Ulster University Foundation Degree in Tourism, Hospitality & Event Management; Kenzie Seaton (Belfast), Morgan McCullough (Lisburn), and Denisa Fida (Ballynahinch) all HNC in International Travel & Tourism Management; Cameron Waring (Portavogie), Ellie Doherty (Portaferry), and Cohen Boyd (Bangor), all from the Liverpool John Moores University BSc Hons Business Management.   The funding will cover flights, transfers, accommodation and support whilst they undertake their placements in a range of businesses for four weeks in Malaga, Spain during July and August.

Andrew Megarry, International Development Manager at SERC said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for higher education students from some of our tourism and business programmes to gain international work experience. The students will undertake placements with hotels, museums, tour operators, coworking spaces and language centres.   Besides gaining valuable work experience abroad, the students will develop transversal skills - essential for work, education and daily life - such as critical thinking, teamwork, self-management, problem-solving, decision-making and communication.   This four-week placement will give them each the edge whether pursuing higher education or employment.”
