Students from Level 2, 3 and 4 Health programmes at SERC’s Newtownards Campus have put together festive hampers for older people living in the local community which will be distributed by Age NI.

Nikki Rainey, Health Programme Co-ordinator said, “Our Health students are only too aware of the challenges faced by many people in our community, most especially older people.  The students decided that they would like to do something positive as part of their festive celebrations and several classes worked together to organise a collection of foodstuff and gifts that they made into hampers which will be distributed in the local area by Age NI.”

She added, “Our Health students have the opportunity to learn from a range of guest speakers as part of their courses and were delighted to hear from Linda Robinson from Age NI when she collected the hampers. Linda kindly took time to speak to the students about her role, the fact that 1 in 3 people in NI are experiencing loneliness and how COVID 19 has had a detrimental effect on older people's development.   She advised that the hampers would be really appreciated by older people in the local area and thanked the students.”

The students would like to thank fellow students, staff, friends, and family who contributed to their hamper appeal.
