It’s not often that a haircut draws a crowd (socially distanced) but that was the case for SERC’s Ruediger (Rudi) Lohe who finally got his lockdown locks cut at our Revive Salon in Lisburn Campus this week, in a bid to raise funds for charity Fields of Life.

Rudi, a Training and Innovation Consultant specialising in Manufacturing and Engineering, said, “When the first lockdown came in, like everyone else, I was forced to grow my hair as all the barbers were closed.  After it got to a particular length, I decided to keep growing it, but it was time to have it cut and I thought why not see if I could raise some money for charity too.”

Level 3 Barbering student, Owen Andrews, was tasked with Rudi’s haircut.   Like many students, our Barbering students depend on the opportunity to practice their skills, so this was the perfect PBL (project-based learning) opportunity to gain more experience and help someone raise money for charity.

Rudi concluded, “All money raised will help support students gain lifelong technical skills in the new Fields of Life Vocational Technical Institute in Northern Uganda, because I believe education is the way out of poverty.”
