Students at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) showcased their enterprising spirit at a series of Halloween themed fairs hosted across the College’s Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newtownards Campuses ahead of the mid-term break.

Charlotte McCormick, Senior Innovation Advisor said, “Enterprise and Entrepreneurship are embedded in the curriculum of all courses at the College. Our students are also encouraged and supported to take part in our calendar of festive fairs and markets which offer the chance for students to ‘dip their toes’ into selling directly to students, staff and the public at a pre-booked stall.

She continued, “Students might offer a service or product related to their programme of study or something related to a hobby or interest outside of SERC. We were delighted with the turnout at our first festive market of the year, which saw students offer delicious baked goods and treats, hand crafted metalwork, arts, crafts, gifts and jewellery, natural soaps, house plants and seedlings, upcycled, recycled and nearly new items – mostly produced or sourced by students and staff, and sometimes guest stallholders.”

The theme of sustainability was evident on many of the stalls and, in particular, with the official opening of Truffle, a quirky enterprise shop project which sells vintage, pre-loved and restored goods at the College’s Downpatrick Campus.

SERC’s festive themed markets are open to the public. Most stall holders accept cash only. Keep an eye on SERC’s social platforms for our Christmas Markets coming up in December.
