SERC is passionate about going Green and making a difference in the world around us. In this month's GoGreen newsletter, the focus is on sustainable and ethical fashion.

Being more ethically aware of the clothing brands you buy by opting for brands that are eco-friendly and make clothes in non-exploitative conditions can make the world a better place. As Fashion Revolution, a global fashion movement state, ““We love fashion. But we don’t want our clothes to exploit people or destroy our planet. We demand radical, revolutionary change.”

Finding out how ethical your favourite brands are is quick and easy, thanks to websites such as Good On You. Good On You produce a Brand Directory which lists thousands of different fashion brands. Simply search a brand and Good On You will show what rating they have assigned to the brand based on three categories, People, Planet and Animals. Check out your favourite brands’ rating and see if you need to make some fashion changes.

If you want something new but also want to help the cause, then visit Lost Stock. Lost Stock is brought to you from the team at Mallzee, a friendly start-up based in beautiful Edinburgh. You select your preferred style and your size, and Lost Stock will send you at least 3 items of clothing in a Lost Stock Box, that would otherwise have gone to landfill. Each Box costs just £35 and supports a garment worker in an underdeveloped country, it also supports their family with food and vital supplies for a week.

Today it is quick and easy to replace our damaged clothes with new ones, but nowadays we also have access to endless videos and how-to guides to help us get more wear out of our well-loved clothes. Grab a needle and thread and watch the how-to video below which will show you how to sew on a button, to keep your clothes for longer!
