Former SERC students Dean Watson and Lee Parker opened their very own barber studio in Lisburn.

The former SERC students both studied barbering in SERC Lisburn Campus and had been friends ever since. After completing their SERC course, they quickly found work in a barber studio in Banbridge, then successfully opened, in partnership, their own barber studio in Lisburn at the end of last year.

Lee comments, “My SERC course brought me out of my shell and taught me the basics of barbering, which helps me in the everyday duties of working and running the barber studio. I’d struggle to go back to working for someone, co-owning my own barber studio is amazing”.

Dean comments, “It’s been brilliant, thanks to my SERC course, I’ve learned the value of communication while barbering and promoting a friendly atmosphere. We meet new people all the time and it’s made me more outgoing and confident.”

The two former students both stress an importance on mental health and view the casual conversations that customers have with them as having disguised mental health benefits. Dean comments, “A simple conversation could brighten someone’s day.” For this reason, Dean and Lee are getting involved in the local community by organising a raffle for a chance to win a box of male grooming supplies. Tickets cost £1 and all proceeds go to help fund the Men’s Mental Health programme hosted at the Atlas Centre in Lisburn, so you are encouraged to call in to King’s Barbers to show your support.
