This lockdown SERC is encouraging people to share with us their works of art and crafts, to inspire people to pick up a paintbrush, sewing needle or anything else that gets your creativity flowing.

Lockdown gives us the opportunity to explore new hobbies and ways to keep ourselves entertained, as well as to show off and improve our skills. That is why this lockdown SERC is encouraging people to share with us their works of art and crafts, to inspire people to pick up a paintbrush, sewing needle or anything else that gets your creativity flowing. Whether you are a beginner or a master at your chosen art form, making something can lead to better mental wellbeing, as well as being a fun hobby, so let’s get creative!

If you have any paintings, crafts, sewing projects or any other creative and artistic things you would like to share, please contact cdonaldson@serc.ac.uk.

This week we are looking at Rebekah Cunningham's scraps jacket.

Scraps jackets are jackets you can sew together from scraps of fabric you already own. The use of scraps mean interesting patterns form depending on the types of scraps you use.

Rebekah comments, "In this fast fashion world I do think it's getting more and more important to find ways to be sustainable and show fabrics or garments a new lease of life that would otherwise be sat in a dark corner of our room or in the landfill."

The fabrics Rebekah used for her jacket are:

  • Corduroy
  • See You at Six Floral Canvas
  • Blue Denim from Oh! Sew
  • Grey Blue Denim from 1st for Fabrics
  • Blue and White Aztec Cotton from Selvedge and Bolts
