Students from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) were helping make foodie dreams come true at the Tide and Turf themed seafood festival held in Portavogie recently - part of Ards and North Down Borough Council’s ‘Taste Ards and North Down Autumn Food Festival’.

Paul Mercer Deputy Head of the School of Hospitality said, “It was fitting exhibitors selling delicious local produce included students from the College - the next generation of professionals honing their skills and preparing for careers in food and beverage, patisserie, confectionery and as chefs.

He added, “This event was a great opportunity for our students to gain important and valuable experience; where they got to put their knowledge and skills into practice and thus further developing them as the industry professionals they aspire to be. In addition, they got to meet and network with wonderful chefs and highly regarded industry experts in local produce, which has inspired them and illustrates what they can achieve.”

The students worked hard throughout the day, catering to approximately 7,000 people who attended the festival. The students – from Level 2 Training for Success; Level 2 FDQ Accompaniments; Level 3 Meat; Level 3 Professional Cookery; Level 2 & 3 Professional Food and Beverage, and Level 3 Patisserie and Confectionary - met decorated and celebrated chefs Paul Cunningham, Alex Greene, Suzie Lee and Great British Menu judge, Oliver Peyton.
