Undecided about her her career goals, Zara enrolled on the Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) BSc in Business Management and soon realised why she was better off at SERC.

Talking about her path to the College Zara said, “After my A-Levels I decided to take a year out and go travelling, but unfortunately because of Covid this was cut short.

She continued, “I knew going straight into employment wasn’t for me either, so I had a look on the SERC website to check what Higher Education courses where on offer after a recommendation from a family member who highly recommended the college.”

She added, “I hadn’t realised you could do a degree at SERC when I discovered the LJMU in Business Management. I used the resources on the website, including the video testimonials, to find out more about the course and then decided I would apply.”

Speaking about studying at the College, she said, “SERC has been a home away from home. When I left Priory Integrated College in 2018, I was concerned as I wanted to go on to study a degree, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to cope with the little support and guidance I’d heard Higher Education students normally receive. However, at SERC there was an automatic step up into Higher Education where, although I had to be more independent, you are guided through the transition by tutors.

She added, “I wasn’t too keen on leaving home. I was worried about the financial impact and how I would have had to readjust my whole life, potentially to living in a new Country. However, coming to SERC meant I had the opportunity to study a LJMU degree only a short 20-minute drive away from my home. I am also saving so much money, still able to fit in work and keep myself financially afloat.”

Unsure about her ultimate career goals, Zara has discovered a passion for Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR). “Studying sustainability this semester has developed my interest in CSR so I am looking at other courses, including a postgraduate, around the topic.”

Zara concluded by saying “For any individual who is undecided about what to do or about coming to SERC, my best advice would be to speak to someone, whether it’s a family member or someone at the College – there are people who can help you make these big decisions. I am very grateful to all the staff at SERC that helped me navigate my educational path. The staff at SERC are awesome!”
