SERC student Leah Boyd (17) from Bangor is set to compete against other budding make up artists from around the UK in the National Student Make-up Awards.
Leah currently studies Level 2 Hair and Make-up at SERC’s Bangor Campus, her lecturer Judith Magill spoke about Leah’s entry to the competition. “To enter the competition Leah had to create a look based on the theme of 1960’s icons. Leah produced a Twiggy inspired look on her model and submitted her photographic entry. It’s a nice collaborative effort from students in the college, the photos used for submission were taken by SERC photography students and Leah's classmate Megg Simpson modelled the look.”
“The National Student Make-up Awards provides Leah with the opportunity to show her talent and apply her skills. The competition also serves as a great opportunity to stand out from the crowd, develop as an artist and add to your portfolio and CV, potentially enhancing your employability and career prospects.”
Speaking about the opportunity Leah said “One day in class Judith spoke to me about the Student Make-up Awards and asked if I would be interested in taking part, so I read up about it and made a decision to enter, I thought it would be good opportunity to build up my portfolio. I chose a twiggy inspired look as she was iconic in her teens and it was just the best look for my model as she had a similar figure, so it worked well, overall it was a fun experience.”
The competition will be judged by leading industry experts and the results of the National Student Make-up Awards will be announced in July. We wish Leah all the best.
