BSc (Hons) in Cloud Computing Technologies (Validated by The Open University)
The BSc (Hons) in Cloud Computing Technologies is aimed at meeting the local demand of Cloud experts in Northern Ireland. It will cover a range of computing specialisms allowing successful students to follow different career paths.

The BSc (Hons) consists of 80 credits of module material, 40 in each semester in Year 1. You will also complete a 40-credit dissertation module in a project of your choice across the 2nd Year.
This programme is based on a hybrid learning model with a focus on face-to-face delivery.
Modules include:
- Cloud Security and Secure Programming: Develop the skills to design, develop and identify best practices to reduce the risks of vulnerabilities in code.
- Project Management: Develop the skills and knowledge to plan, execute, monitor, control and analyse an IT Project.
- Data Engineering: Acquire the skills to transform raw data into actionable insights through data mining and information retrieval techniques.
- DevOps: Develop a collaborative approach that combines software development and IT operations to deliver applications and services faster and more reliably.
As the cloud continues to ascend, reshaping the technological landscape, the demand for cloud computing experts is skyrocketing. From infrastructure as a service to software as a service, the cloud offers a world of possibilities, empowering businesses and individuals alike.
This course will serve as your cloud compass, guiding you through the vast expanse of cloud technologies and architectures. Explore the intricacies of virtualization, scalability, and security, and become a master of the cloud. Cloud computing is a global phenomenon, connecting people and organizations across the digital sphere.
General Entry Requirements
The general entry requirements below identify the minimum qualifications needed to apply for the programme. Other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis on application. You are required to upload a copy of your qualification certificates to show how you meet the entry requirements for the programme prior to enrolment. Applications will also require successful completion of the admissions process.
GCSE/ Level 2 Requirements
- GCSE grade C/4 in English Language, or Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills Communication, or equivalent in an approved alternative qualification.
AND
- GCSE grade C/4 in Mathematics, or Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills Application of Number, or equivalent in an approved alternative qualification.
AND
- 2 at GCSE level (grades A*-C*/9-4), or equivalent in an approved alternative qualification.
Level 5
- Foundation Degree in a Computing related discipline with a pass mark of 55% or above in Level 5 modules or
- Pearson Higher National Diploma in a Computing related discipline grade merit or above
- Candidates presenting with Foundation Degrees or Higher Nationals or other Level 5 qualification from other awarding bodies will be considered under APEL procedures.
AND
- Applicants must hold a Level 4 Maths module or higher from a related discipline. Other disciplines will be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Students who have not studied the FD in Cloud Computing Technologies at SERC must undertake the Microsoft DP-900 learning path content and the course materials for Programming Fundamentals module provided by the college as background knowledge for entry prior to the course start date. There is no requirement for students to complete assessment of the learning
Accreditation of Prior Learning
Alternatively, you can provide evidence of your ability to undertake the programme by meeting the requirements for the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process, either through Accredited Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or Accredited Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). International Students English Language Requirements
International applicants, from Non-Native English speaking countries, must have evidence of English Language Level B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:
- IELTS 6.0 (Academic) (minimum of 5.5 in all skills)
- PTE Academic 51 (minimum of 46 in each part)
- Or equivalent UKVI-approved English Language Test

Students are assessed using a range of different methods. These include examinations, coursework, project-based learning, presentations, practical, posters, leaflets, role-play, and case studies. This is dependent on the requirements of each unit of study. Oral, written and online feedback will be provided during your course to help improve and monitor performance.
Successful completion of this course could lead to a career in the computing industry.
