Talented students at South Eastern Regional College have two Shakespeare plays in production over the coming weeks – and both promise to be a treat for anyone who loves the bard and live theatre.
First to tread the boards are the Level 3 Performing Arts Practice, Music and Theatrical Media Make-Up students from SERC’s Lisburn Campus who are performing the ever popular The Taming of the Shrew. This 1980s abridged version of the Shakespeare comedy will be performed for local schools at a special matinee on Monday 18 November, but if you are quick, you can book tickets for the evening’s open performance on the same date at 7.00pm at the Island Arts Centre, Lisburn. Not to be missed, there will be a romantic battle, a prom, big hair and of course, a shell suit. Tickets are available from Island Arts Centre.
Another comedy, but with added drama, The Tempest, is brought to the stage by students from the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Practice at SERC’s Bangor Campus. You are invited to enter a world of magic, mystery, and revenge. Meet the castaways and the powerful sorcerer Prospero, who rules the land with enchanted spirits and dark secrets, in an unforgettable journey through Shakespeare’s tale of wonder and redemption. Prepare to be swept away at this performance on Wednesday 27 November at SERC’s SPACE Theatre in Bangor. Tickets available from Ticketsource.
