Sky’s the limit for 18-year-old business apprentice as she gains dream job

HARD work and dedication has paid off for South Eastern Regional College (SERC) business administration apprentice Allie Hamilton from Bangor who has secured employment with Financial Property Solutions, following a successful 3-month trial.

Allie decided to enrol at SERC after her GCSES and, after talking to the tutors, enrolled onto the business administration apprenticeship course at the Colleges Newtownards Campus.

Allie gained a unique insight into the industry thanks to her apprenticeship and has received the opportunity to experience first-hand the role and responsibilities of an administrator, a challenge she is thoroughly enjoying.

Speaking about the apprenticeship, Allie explained that it has helped her gain invaluable knowledge and skills.

Allie said: “I would definitely recommend SERC to others who wanted to reach their full potential. The course allowed me to gain the employability skills that are valued by employers.”

Course tutor Barbara Murphy explains: “The business administration apprenticeship combines academic study with on-the-job experience. This means apprentices gain a specialised set of skills that meet the specific needs of employers. I am delighted that Allie has got this amazing start to her career. It is just the beginning of a great career for her.”

The former Movilla High School pupil came to SERC as she felt there was more opportunities for her outside of school. She said “One of the main reasons I decided to do an apprenticeship was the work place element built into the course. While working I get to study for a qualification and get paid. I had heard good things about SERC from friends who had studied there so I decided to apply too.”

The 18-year-old said that she would ‘strongly encourage others to consider SERC as a first option as the skills she gained at College helped her secure her dream job.’

She said: “I was delighted when I was offered full-time employment and am looking forward to progressing my career there.”

On completion of the apprenticeship Allie plans to progress to the business management degree at the college.
