SERC musicians in perfect harmony at regional competition

Talented music students from SERC have proven to be future top selling artists at this year’s annual intercollege Music Skills competition.

The intercollege competition saw students from Bangor and Lisburn show off their talents as they competed in several different categories to be awarded prizes for categories including best singer songwriter, cover band category and originals band category. The competition was held in the colleges SPACE campus in Bangor.

When the awards were announced Sara Louise Hutton from Bangor Level 2 Music was deservedly the winner in the Singer Songwriter category with Rory Jeffers from Lisburn Campus the runner up in Singer songwriter category. First prize for the original band category went to ‘C22’ from Lisburn consisting of band members; Ben Loughran, Rory Jeffers, Fergus McPherson, Callum Rodgers and Conor Sloan.

The runner up for the covers band category went to ‘Melanie Moore’ from Bangor consisting of band members; Mark Teegan, Sophie Duff-McKenzie Thomas Duff-McKenzie, Craig Frazer and Taylor Hope.

First prize for the covers band category went to ‘The Dandelions’ from Lisburn consisting of band members; Konstocntinos Petsakos, David Purdy, Lewis Aicken, Iwan Hynds and Olivia McClenaghan from the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music course.

Sara-Louise Hutton, C22 and The Dandelions will now represent SERC in the NI Music Skills Inter College Competition taking place at The Market Place Theatre, Armagh.

SERC Course co-ordinator Antoine Rivoire said, “I am delighted that Sara-Louise Hutton, C22 and The Dandelions have qualified for the NI Music Skills competition and will represent SERC. The quality of the performances was very high, and it has been a great experience to work with students with such a high standard of work ethic and musical output. I wish the students the best of luck in the competition.”
