Results day’s looming – what’s next?
With young people across the province anxiously waiting their A level and GCSE results, SERC are preparing to host a series of Careers Advice Days offering young people and their parents; free, impartial and tailored information on their options once they get their results.
The event is designed to help young people and their parents understand the range of career opportunities and pathways available to them, helping them to make better, informed choices. The service is available to anyone in the South Eastern region, whether or not they are considering studying at SERC.
SERC careers advisors will be available by appointment or drop in at the Colleges Bangor, Downpatrick and Lisburn Campus from Monday 13 August to Wednesday 15 August from 9am-4pm and again from Monday 20 August to Wednesday 22 August. The careers team will also be available on a drop-in basis on A level results days on 16 and 17 August and GCSE results days on 23 and 24 August.
The bespoke careers interview will offer school leavers and their parents the chance to meet Careers Advisors face-to-face, find out about the range of options available to them, ask questions, offer advice for those undecided about which route to take and can help with UCAS, CV writing and interview techniques.
Shirley Moore, Senior Careers Officer at SERC said “Deciding on the next step after leaving school or returning to education can be a daunting and anxious time and young people and parents don’t always know what career, courses or learning opportunities are available to them. Some people may have performed under their expectations, while others may be unsure about which route to take. The important thing is not to panic. Our team of expert careers advisors can talk young people through their individual situations, enabling them to see for themselves what options are available to them not only in SERC but wider afield."
“It is vital that young people are aware of the range of options available, to help them make better, informed choices and I would encourage them to come along to hear their options. Our goal is to make it easier and more accessible for school leavers to source all the information they need to make decisions about their future.”
