“I enjoyed my time on my course and the blend of both theory and practical elements. I especially loved being able to work in the workshop and show my creativity through many projects, which is something you don’t get to experience much in school. Although I was one of the only girls on my course, I felt encouraged by two of my female tutors, who inspired me with the knowledge that there is a strong presence of women in this industry.”

“I have recently progressed to Higher Education and have started an HND in Engineering. I am really enjoying the course, and the teachers have shown me incredible support. Their previous experience in the engineering industry helps me to build my own skills though their knowledge.”

“Cutting Edge is a great student initiative to be involved in. We have made a wide range of different products like Christmas decorations, coasters, fridge magnets, signs, and we have also engraved glass. It’s great to put together your own ideas and showcase your work at college fairs on campus. I have also been given the opportunity to use a laser cutter, which I have gotten confident at using and setting up for different projects.”

“I would highly recommend anyone to consider a course in Engineering if they have an interest in it, or any subject they enjoy. The progression to Higher Education will undoubtedly guide me in the future, and the overall teaching environment at SERC has been great in helping me develop a broad range of skills. All the teachers always set aside time to help you with any issues, and make sure you understand what you are learning. I am excited to progress through my HND and explore a potential career route in Engineering.”
