Travel and Tourism Lecturer, Mary Gillies, is taking her marathon running to a new level this weekend, as she prepares to run the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday 2 March 2025.
Mary, who is running in aid of NI Hospice, has currently raise £5,330 and hopes to hit £6k for the local charity, which provides services to thousands of families with life-limiting illnesses each year.
Speaking about her training, Mary said, “Winter training is the worst, dark morning runs, rain, snow and big storms but the support from everyone to date has been amazing and that’s what keeps my spirits up. I would dearly love to reach £6k for NI Hospice to help support all the amazing work they do - every penny counts, and no donation is too small.”
You can show your support on Mary’s Just Giving page: Mary Gillies is fundraising for Northern Ireland Hospice
Mary is no stranger to marathons, having already completed 26 mile runs in London, New York, Chicago, Berlin, Amsterdam and Dublin. The run in Tokyo, followed by a further marathon in Boston on 21 April, will put Mary into the elite group of marathon runners eligible for a coveted Abbott World Marathon Major Six Star Medal!
If all that talk of marathon running, rain and dark mornings is making you feel like a lie down, alleviate your pain by making a donation if you can!
Our very best wishes to Mary for her run on Sunday 2 March.
