Two SERC alumni are returning to College to host a real-life social history session, which aims to bring young and older people together for a unique immersive theatre event based on the sixties from 12.00pm to 2.00pm on 28 April 2022 at SERC’s Space Theatre, Castle Park Road, Bangor.

Dakota Ginesi and Bryony Randall’s arts company, Distorted Reflections, secured funding from the All-Ages Grant supported by the Public Health Agency and Linking Generations, for the event which will see up to 15 older people and 15 young people (aged 16 +), come together for the social history learning experience, which is also supported by SERC’s Enterprise team.

Dakota (21, from Lurgan), said, “An immersive theatre production fully involves the audience in the performance so theatrical props, our costumes, music and even food, will be used to stimulate memories of the 1960s, so the older participants will reminisce and share with younger people, what their lives were like during this period.”

Bryony (27, from Lisburn) added, “This is a fantastic opportunity to reminisce about the 1960s and recall some of the big things that happened, from the moon landings to famous people such as Marilyn Monroe, Doris Day, Elvis; from Beatle Mania to the hippie movement; from a night at the movies to see Lawrence of Arabia to the foods you remember eating.   It promises to be fun and a positive approach to getting different generations to communicate.” Both Dakota and Bryony progressed from Level 3 to the HND in Performing Arts at SERC.

Dakota has recently completed a drama studio and is currently involved in another at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre.

Bryony, who completed a BA in Musical Theatre at Newcastle College, is now a singing teacher at Lisburn Music Centre, and is involved with a Terra Nova Productions 15th century project.

The inter-generational immersive experience is suitable for anyone who lived through the 1960s or whose parents were alive during this period as well as for young people who are ages 16+.
