Earlier this month, Blaine won first and second place in two different competition categories at the AHT regional heat in Belfast. Following on from this success, Blaine travelled to Blackpool to compete at the AHT UK Finals on 10 May.
AHT consists of teachers, trainers and assessors of hairdressing or therapy subjects, who hold or are working towards teaching or assessing qualifications. They host student competitions annually at regional and national level.
At the Finals, Blaine was required to develop a creative barbering cut and finish on a pre-coloured live model, with an emphasis on a modern fashion style. Judges observed Blaine throughout the 45 minutes allocated, to create the style and then judged him on the final finished look.
After the competition, Blaine was congratulated by one of the AHT judges who commented that it was great that Blaine had made the journey from Northern Ireland to the competition. They commended him for the great look he created, especially since he was up against an exceptionally high standard in the barbering competition.
Blaine’s tutor, Sarah-June Robinson, who accompanied him to the competition, commented: “I am very proud of Blaine’s performance at the UK Final. He went up against skilled barbers from across the whole of the UK and performed extremely well. He is a very creative barber and is always keen to learn new skills. He is ambitious and wants to move forward in the industry. In the future I hope to see him work on stage with a top brand, demonstrating his talents and teaching new young barbers all his great skills!”
