Steps to Success

The Steps to Success team at SERC share a success story built on good working relations and the teams fantastic training and motivation to help people back into the workplace.  Given that so many are facing an uncertain future right now it is wonderful to hear how the proper support can have a positive outcome.

The Steps to Success programme was recommended to an ESA voluntary member via the Job Centre based in Kilkeel.  The member had found themselves in a situation where they had lost their job, through no fault of their own.  This had led to a negative impact on their emotional wellbeing.  In order to help them with their confidence and social interaction, it was agreed they would attend two progress reviews per month with SERC Employment Advisor, Karen Mooney, as well as a Confidence Coffee Afternoons with SERC Employment Advisor, Pamela Fitzpatrick.

In order to provide the member with the best chance of securing employment, the advisors constructed a CV to include all skills, and previous work experience the member had, as well as discussing their health and wellbeing.  Both Karen and Pamela helped the member with interview techniques in the hope they could apply such techniques to job interviews.  The team were delighted to receive a phone call from the member at the end of March to tell them that they had been offered a full-time position with Mourne Grange, Kilkeel helping vulnerable individuals.

Debbie Scott, SERC Steps to Success Branch Manager commented, “This is an excellent example of our good relations with the Kilkeel Job Centre, and also a great example of teamwork where both advisers contributed and supported this particular individual to progress into employment”
