Seven (7) students have successfully completed a 4-week Chef Bootcamp fully funded by the Newry Mourne and Down Labour Market Partnership and delivered by South Eastern Regional College (SERC).
Labour Market Partnerships are funded by the Department for Communities and create targeted employment action plans for council areas, allowing for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work.
The participants all received a Certificate of Completion from the College and gained an RSPH Level 2 Food Safety & RSPH Level 2 Allergen qualifications.
Karen McClure, Business Development Manager, SERC said, “The Chef Bootcamp combined hands-on practical tuition, basic food preparation and chef demonstrations at SERC and a valuable placement for 2 days each week with a local employer. The course has equipped participants with fast track first steps to becoming a chef, gaining those essential basic qualifications in kitchen know-how to pursue a career in the hospitality industry."
Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Michael Savage said, “Newry, Mourne and Down Labour Market Partnership is delighted to have funded such a successful initiative to local residents and participating employers by assisting with the supply of skilled individuals. Feedback received from the participants on completion of the Chef Bootcamp has been excellent and I wish them every success for their future careers in the hospitality industry.”
