Level 2 Hair and Media Make Up students from South Eastern Regional College took part in the Irish National Make Up Tournament at the RDS in Dublin earlier this year with Abbey O’Reilly, from Bangor, lifting third place in the Fashion Bridal Total Look category.
Judith Magill, Lecturer from the School of Performing Arts, Media, Hairdressing and Beauty said, “We are delighted that Abbey O’Reilly was placed in the Fashion Bridal Total Look category with her model Jessica Westwood, also a student on the course. This was a fantastic opportunity for six of our Level 2 students, including Abbey, to put themselves in the spotlight against talent from across the island of Ireland. The experience has been tremendous, and Abbey’s win is a real boost for the other students to realise what is possible.
She added, “Competitions such as the Irish National Make Up Tournament give students the opportunity to push themselves on in their course, they get to meet professionals working in their chosen industry, learn how they can improve and network with peers and potential employers from across the country. Judith concluded,
“The students - Georgia Jess, Vikki Brashier, Alanis Stewart, Alicia Spence, Chloe Huntington and Abbey O’Reilly - demonstrated their abilities, working to a timed brief and criteria, and are judged accordingly. Not only is it about showing skills, creativity and ability to work to a client’s brief, but the students plan all their work and must hold their nerves in order to deliver on the day. These are skills which will put them all in good stead for future work in a competitive industry.”
